   Membership

New members are not auditioned, but we would ask you to...

  • Attend rehearsals regularly and punctually. Tuesday rehearsals start at 6.15 pm and last for 2 hours. Extra or extended rehearsals may be held near concert dates. Rehearsals take place at: NatWest Bank, 1, Princes Street, EC1 (close to Bank and Liverpool Street stations).
  • Sign in at reception. Please sign the security list at Reception at the NatWest building and keep your Voice Rep. aware of any changes to your contact details.
  • Buy or hire vocal scores. Scores are available from the librarians, either to hire at modest cost or to buy, at a discount. Tapes/CD’s may be available to help learn the parts, but all singers should learn them as quickly as possible.
  • Pay a yearly subscription, currently £70 a year (£35 concessionary rate), payable in January. If you are a UK taxpayer you can Gift Aid your subscription, which benefits Choir funds. If you are only able to sing for one concert, the fee is £40.
  • Buy a minimum of two tickets for each concert.
  • Enjoy rehearsals
  • Join us for a drink at a local pub afterwards!

Concert Information

Formal dress code

Ladies: Black blouses or tops with full/three-quarter length sleeves, plain or self patterned. Full length black skirts, below ankles please. Simple, non-sparkling jewellery. Small black handbags for valuables.

Gentlemen: Black dinner jackets and trousers, white dress shirts and black bow ties.

Informal dress code

Informal dress code may sometimes be used for smaller concerts.

Ladies: Summer dresses, patterened or plain in light colours. Small handbags for valuables.

Gentlemen: White short sleeved shirts and black trousers.

In order for the choir to look professional on stage we must all adhere to the following platform discipline.

Singers are asked to ...

  • use the black folders unless informed otherwise
  • ensure that you have the concert running order and have marked the ‘stands and sits’ in your copy (lightly in pencil if hired copy)
  • line up quietly in order 15 mins before concert and 10 minutes before end of intervals
  • walk on stage and sit only when line is complete - follow this procedure in reverse order at the interval and at the end of the concert.
  • stand at entrance of conductor.
  • stand and sit together throughout. It will be less noisy if you place your feet where you intend to stand
  • turn pages quietly, be particularly careful during quiet solo passages.
  • watch the conductor at all times.
  • hand hired music to librarians after concert has finished.
  • smile and enjoy the concert!

but are asked not to ...

  • take bottles of water on to the platform
  • wave at friends/family in the audience
  • talk to fellow choir members
  • clap whilst standing (you are standing to receive applause)
  • close your copy at the end until the accompaniment is finished
  • leave music on seats before the concert or during the interval
